Career Journey: Chris Bail, Purchasing Manager

We asked Chris a few questions about his career journey so far, how he ended up at Lifehouse, and what he loves about his job. Read the full interview below!

How long have you been working at Lifehouse?

12 years 2 months.

Tell us a little bit about how you ended up here.

I saw an advert in the local newspaper advertising for a store person in 2010.

Describe your usual working day.

Re-stocking of the bar and restaurant, checking stock levels, raising purchase orders, checking deliveries and logging them, taking deliveries to all departments, sorting post and the odd maintenance job.

What’s your favourite thing about working at Lifehouse?

The staff I work with on a daily basis are friendly and supportive. The owners and senior management are very supportive too. It’s a lovely environment to work in with beautiful gardens.

What do you like most about working in this industry?

The constant growth. I have seen Lifehouse grow in the 12 years I have worked here to the 5 Bubble rating it truly deserves today. A fantastic achievement! A great spa and hotel.

What makes Lifehouse different from other places you’ve worked?

In my two previous employments, I was a senior manager who would manage people. Here at Lifehouse, I work on my own on a daily basis. Yes, I do not have the same stress levels as at my previous jobs but I still work to a high level.

What are some new skills you have picked up since you started working here?

Computer skills including Word and Excel.

What advice would you give to people applying for a job like yours?

You need to be hardworking, a team player and self-motivated.

What’s the funniest interaction you’ve had with a customer?

A lady was staring at me in our bar seating area. She waved me over and said, “Why did you end our relationship, Paul”? I said, “Sorry, but my name is Chris”.
